Privacy Policy
Chronology is a history card game. It is designed to work without knowing who you are. This page explains exactly what data we handle, why, and how to get it deleted.
It covers both the Android app and the version you can play in a web browser. The two are almost identical, but one item below applies only to the website. Where that is the case it is stated on the item itself.
What we collect
An anonymous identifier. When you first open the app, an anonymous account is created for your install. It is a random identifier. It is not linked to your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, or any other personal detail, because the app never asks for any of those.
Gameplay statistics. Your scores, games played, cards you have seen, mistakes, category accuracy, and rank progress are stored against that anonymous identifier so your progress and Museum collection survive between sessions.
Online match data. If you play online, room codes and the moves made in a match are processed on our servers to run the game between the two players.
Crash reports. If the app crashes or hits an error, a report is sent to Sentry, an error tracking service. It includes technical details such as the device model, operating system version, app version, and what went wrong in the code. Crash reports are used only to find and fix bugs.
Visit counts (website only). When the game is opened in
a web browser, we record one row noting that a visit happened: the date and
time, and the name of the site or app the link was followed from, such as
linkedin.com. On Android, a link opened from another app can
appear as that app's package name, such as
com.linkedin.android. We store only that name, never the full
web address, so anything the other site had in its link is discarded. These
rows contain no identifier of any kind: they are not linked to your
anonymous account, your device, or each other, so they cannot be used to
recognise you or to follow you between visits. They exist only to count how
many people arrived and roughly from where.
The Android app does not do this at all. It is switched off in the app, which has no referring link to record.
What we do not collect
- No name, email address, or phone number
- No location data
- No contacts, photos, or files
- No advertising identifiers, and no ads at all
- No profile of you built across other apps or websites, and nothing that follows you from one site to another
Where your data lives
Gameplay data is stored on Supabase, a hosted database service. Crash reports are stored on Sentry. All data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS and secure WebSockets). We keep routine database backups for up to 60 days for disaster recovery.
Sharing
We do not sell or share your data with anyone. The only third parties that touch it are Supabase and Sentry, acting as our infrastructure providers as described above. Data is never used for advertising.
Requesting deletion of your data
To have the data Chronology holds about you deleted, email kuroi@playgitgudgames.com with the subject "Delete my Chronology data". Because accounts are anonymous, we cannot look you up by name, so we will work with you to identify the records tied to your install.
On a confirmed request we delete the anonymous account and all gameplay statistics stored against it. Copies in routine database backups expire within 60 days. Crash reports on Sentry are retained for up to 90 days before being discarded automatically; they identify a device, not a person.
Uninstalling the app abandons the anonymous account; the stats attached to it are no longer reachable from any device.
The website visit counts described above are the one thing a deletion request cannot reach, because there is nothing in them to match you to: they carry no account, no device identifier, and nothing linking one row to another. They are counts, not records about a person.
Children
Chronology is an educational card game suitable for all ages. It collects the same minimal, anonymous data from every player regardless of age, and no personal information from anyone.
